A Shawnee homeowner needed an update for his traditional, two-story home. The siding needed to be replaced and the windows were old and difficult to open. His wishlist included an exterior remodel consistent with the rest of his neighborhood but crisper and more modern.
The homeowner also desired a siding that would improve his home’s energy efficiency and require little maintenance. After reading Smart Exteriors’ online reviews and meeting with our salesperson, he employed us to replace his home’s siding and windows.
After meeting with our team, the Shawnee homeowner chose 5.25” James Hardie fiber cement lap siding in Pearl Gray with OSB and 1″ R6 foam board. James Hardie siding fulfilled the client’s wish list because it’s energy-efficient, gorgeous, and low maintenance.
The existing vinyl siding had foam board nailed directly to the studs. James Hardie siding is much heavier than the old siding, so we had to install OSB sheathing underneath it. It was challenging because the homeowner wanted a 1” thick insulation board installed behind the siding. We worked directly with representatives from James Hardie to find the best way to execute the homeowner’s request.
We removed all existing siding and insulation and then attached the new 1” foam board to the studs. After that, we marked the studs, added the 3/8” OSB, marked the studs again, and attached the Hardie house wrap using 3” nails. Lastly, we installed sleek James Hardie lap siding in Pearl Gray. Customizable, premium ProVia vinyl windows added a finishing touch.
The Shawnee resident loved the new look of his new siding and windows. He also very much appreciated that our team took the time to ensure he got everything on his wishlist — energy efficiency, a gorgeous new look, and minimal upkeep.
