A Kansas City, MO resident was in dire need of an overhaul for her bungalow-style home built in 1915. She wanted to maintain its period charm while modernizing the exterior and repairing extensive wood rot. In addition, she sought to increase the abode’s energy efficiency and decrease maintenance time and costs. The project was especially difficult because of the home’s age and because it has such a unique design with few level or straight lines.
Given these hurdles, the homeowner needed an accomplished contractor to complete the renovations. She looked to Smart Exteriors for our extensive experience renovating old and historic home exteriors.
After meeting with the homeowner, our team at Smart Exteriors suggested design options including stylish dark gray acrylic stucco accents, a ProVia front door and windows in Burnt Orange, and James Hardie fiber cement siding.

This project was not without its challenges! Our team at Smart Exteriors had to add framing and new sheathing to replace the existing rot. In addition, it was difficult to work on some areas of the home because it was so close to neighbors’ houses. Lastly, a slippery metal roof made it impossible to access portions of the siding, so our team had to remove and replace some of the panels to complete the project.
